More than half of the Kilmeaden Village lands are given to parks, rewilding, woodland and green infrastructure, with the remainder supporting renewable energy generation and the village and technology uses.

Respecting nature and biodiversity

Scenic walking and cycling trails and a Linear Park are designed to link homes to nature. The project is expected to deliver a net gain in biodiversity, with a substantial woodland buffer along the Whelansbridge River, replacement and native planting, control of invasive species, and measures such as mammal passes and bird and bat boxes.

Delivering new renewable energy

A solar farm and battery storage will generate and store renewable power on land previously used for the cheese factory’s operations. This on-site renewable generation is one part of the project’s wider approach to energy — the development’s electricity demand is also designed to be matched by new renewable generation contracted specifically for the purpose.

Data centres heating homes

Waste heat from the data centres will supply a district-heating network for the new homes and village centre — a lower-carbon source of heat — with the network designed so it could be extended to the wider village.

Managing water flows

No built development is proposed within the floodplain. Flood risk is not increased on the site or for neighbouring lands.
